Daniel "Dan" Roman Messing, age 80, of Eau Claire, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 14, 2024 following a short illness.

On October 26, 1943, Dan was born to the late Frank and Bernetta (Booms) Messing in Minden City, Michigan. He grew up in Michigan and graduated from Carsonville High School in 1961.

On April 24, 1965, he was united in marriage to Diane Dropiewski. Dan was a dairy farmer for 36 years and also enjoyed raising Arabian horses. In 1978, the family moved from Brown City, Michigan to Thorp, Wisconsin where he farmed until 1996. He and Diane then moved to Eau Claire where Dan worked for 17 years with Menards until his retirement in 2014.

Dan enjoyed gardening, reading and watching westerns, collecting farm toys and Breyer horses, polka music, and praying the rosary daily. He was a parish member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church and a dedicated sponsor of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who truly loved the time he spent with his family.

Dan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Diane; children, Damian (Lena) Messing, Yvonne (Bill) Zoromski, Eric Messing, and Brian (Dawn) Messing; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Outlaw; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa in 1972; his best 4-legged companion, Emily; brothers, Gordan, Norman, and Marcus; sisters, Mildred Uhl, Sylvia Landon, Alice Messing and Arlene Roggenbuck.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
