Send Flowers

SCHLEIFER, Philip J., age 76

Died: Tuesday, August 21st, 2012

In keeping with his wishes, a private memorial gathering for very close family members was held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Philip Schleifer,76, died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire with family members at his side.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 25, 1935, to the late Fred A. and Winifred (Bailey) Schleifer. On August 1, 1964, he married Suzanne Freybler. In 1967, he graduated from Marquette Medical School (now called the Medical College of Wisconsin) and practiced family medicine at Lakeland Medical Clinic in Woodruff, WI, from 1968 to 1973. He then worked in the emergency room of Sacred Heart Hospital until 1979. From 1979 to 1984, Philip served the community of Colfax, WI, through his family practice, which he regretfully sold after his health began to decline. He subsequently worked at UW-Stout Student Health Services until 1997 when he was forced to retire due to poor health caused by chronic leukemia.

Philip enjoyed medicine very much, especially while talking and building relationships with his patients. He was a kind and modest man who always saw the best in others. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sue; son, Fred (Felicia Parsons); daughter, Kathy (Fraser) Cunningham; grandsons, Mike and Jack Harper; brother, Tom Schleifer; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Philip was preceded in death by his brothers, Don and Paul.

His family wishes to thank Dr. Delmastro for his many years of dedicated and excellent oncology care that did so much to improve the quality and length of his life.

Honoring a life with a meaningful service is an important step in the grief process and is a gift to their family and friends —
a gift of memories and a gift of healing
